They sided with Islamic Republic of Pakistan against the liberal-minded citizens of their own homeland. Rather than awaiting judicial resolution, political mobilization escalated rapidly. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Cambria, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">These protests were reportedly organized by <\/span><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">44 Islamist parties and their allies<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">, some of whom present themselves internationally as \u201cmoderate.\u201d Bangladesh\u2019s history warrants caution. Jamaat-e-Islami, which fled to Pakistan following its role in the <\/span><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">1971 genocide<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">, was politically rehabilitated through alliances with the BNP.
